Overview

The group’s laboratory

The group’s in-house laboratory checks the conformity of the concrete products made by Belza Préfa and Belza Ecotech: pavers, slabs, kerbs, gutters and precast elements. Located on the Belza Préfa site in Ben Guerir, it complements the design office and the technical support offered to clients.

Its tests follow the standards stated on the products’ technical data sheets: NF EN 1338 for pavers, NF EN 1339 for slabs and NM 10.1.014 for kerbs. They cover dimensions, water absorption, abrasion resistance, splitting strength and flexural strength.

The laboratory is equipped with a compression press, a flexural test frame, precision scales and a set of sieves. At Belza Ecotech, production goes through its tests before drying; test reports are issued together with the products’ technical data sheets.

Testing

Tests and controls

  • Dimensional check Length, width and thickness, compared with the tolerances on the data sheets: ± 2 mm in length and width, ± 3 mm in thickness for pavers and slabs.
  • Water absorption Weighed after immersion and drying: 6% at most for pavers and slabs (class 2).
  • Abrasion resistance Wear groove under 23 mm for pavers and slabs (class 3).
  • Splitting tensile strength On the press: at least 3.6 MPa for pavers, with no individual result below 2.9 MPa.
  • Kerb flexure Breaking load at 28 days, to class B1 or B2 of standard NM 10.1.014: the kerb is loaded until it breaks, as in the photos below.
  • Test reports Issued by our laboratories, together with the products’ technical data sheets.
